Recent versions likely will run best with at least 1 GHz processors and at least 2 GB of RAM, but requirements testing has not be conducted to determine this information. Earlier versions of FreeOrion have been reported to ''run'' on a 600MHz machine with 128 MB internal memory, however this did not constitute a good playing experience.

As of [https://github.com/freeorion/freeorion/releases/tag/v0.4.8 v.0.4.8], FreeOrion requires an OpenGL 2.1 capable graphic card and a display with a minimum resolution of at least 800x600.

Additionally, FreeOrion uses [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenGL OpenGL], meaning you should have a 3D accelerator card with support for OpenGL 2.0 or greater.  Systems with OpenGL 1.5 may work with some graphical options turned off, however. A screen resolution of 1024x768 or larger is very strongly recommended, though the game can be run, awkwardly, at lower resolutions.

FreeOrion requires at least Windows XP with Service Pack 2 or later, Mac OSX 10.9 or later or any reasonably recent Linux distribution on x86 compatible processors. Other operating systems and architectures have reported to be working by users, but are not actively supported by the FreeOrion project.

If you have experience running FreeOrion on a particular system and thought it was a bit slow, please add your system details here or post about it in the forums so that we can accumulate some more recent and useful guidelines of reasonable specifications.
