I have been getting this error as well. Exact message on Manjaro.

I am not so familiar with the way snap does these readonly virtual filesystems etc, but I was thinking of trying to link the /var/lib/snapd/snap/freeorion/374/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri directory to my local dri directory.

Or maybe I should try booting into an older kernel.

I'm lost here, but I am not amazingly proficient, be good to see if whoever built the snap tried testing it.

I am making progress; the problem was that the gnome content snap did change (which also provides mesa/gl..).

And the real problem is that this results in duplicate libraries and something goes awry from there (which is not unexpected).

So I just did a build where I remove all the duplicates (a klutch taken from gnome-calculator snap). And it works, just the images for the systems are bad/fail at loading. It seems the build created some *png.import files which freeorion chokes on.

So I guess I can publish an ugly snap soonish

yes, i was fixing the library path in that revision. were you able to connect to the server and make a game run? i didnt do that for such a long time that i totally forgot how that works.
Sorry I didn't have email notifications set properly so I missed this message. I just pulled latest/edge, but all I can see is the chat screen that pops up when you connect to multiplayer mode in the Godot client. I assume that's what you would expect from the bleeding edge version.

In the meantime, the v0.5.0/stable channel freeoriond is giving the earlier library issue:

What was the change to fix the library paths?

I tried building the snap using snapcraft but cmake is hanging at 0% with a lot of CPU usage. Is there a way to increase parallel processes or VM size?

I managed to beef up the VM and complete rebuilding the snap with these:

And I changed snapcraft.yaml to update the libraries:
