Thank you. I started during xmas hols and just passed halfway. For me the agony is less about the jumping and more the compulsion to map any unmapped bodies in systems I visit - hours and hours of flying half a million ls across binary systems!

I'm pissed about the game forgetting my readiness state when i join the server, but O01eg tells it's better this way and wants confirmations from other players; does anyone else feel the pain?

Sorry to hear about another bad start. :( Hopefully you'll join another game in the future.

I would prefer it to remember so I don't have to click it again if I just wanted to log in to check on stuff. But I don't think it's a big deal either, especially since I added the warning on exit.

tbh it wasn't a bad start, particularly, I just got turned off by seeing two neighbour supply lines on turn 7! And fwiw last time wasn't a terrible start either, in terms of planets, I just got pwned by L29Ah who had a good one. I think larger galaxies allow things to even out a bit - with really small galaxies early advantages count for much more IMO. I also think that monsters can make an average start terrible (or occasionally good), but again this is much more extreme in smaller galaxies.

Now back to more surface mapping ...

I would prefer if the readiness was remembered, but i also won't mind it that much the current way.

On to other news

State Federal Press

Unconfirmed rumors have been heard among merchants, business doers, and other civilian channels, that a foreign interstellar realm has been dissolved seemingly out of nowhere.

There has been rampant speculation as to what could have caused the collapse of an emerging realm, with claims being made such as a coup escalating out of control, a devastating disaster either natural or artificial, or perhaps the most unlikely of all, a deliberate choice by the head of state of the fallen realm. Whatever happened, it is certain that all central authority would have collapsed.

This event only serves to underline just how cruel the stars can be, as we can only hope that our leadership won't succumb to such pressures.

Next at 6, The tragic story of how one of our exploratory vessels was lost with all hands despite advanced warning. Could it have been a fatal navigation error, suicide, or something more insidious? More at 6

Formicarium Log Cycle 10

While exploring the galaxy we encountered a scout from a different empire which was promptly vaporized by our trigger happy pilots. Ugh, how can we interrogate them if we blow them up first? There aren't even any remains left for the forensic team to analyze. Oh well, accidents happen, right? Who'd dare to tell the ship crews how to do their job?

We also lost one of our own scouts to a rogue "monster" ship. They look intimidating but once you know where they are there isn't much to fear. Now if there were a ton of them blocking every exploration path well then maybe we'd need to rethink our stance...

Formicarium Log Cycle 15

Turns out our counterclockwise neighbor is just as trigger happy. We've lost two more scouts to their border patrol. I guess immigration is not an option... The score is now 2-2 on scouts. Certainly we'll call it even here. Definitely won't escalate to interstellar war. Now calmly put those lasers away, okay?

Turns out researching is actually good for something. Burrowing efficiency has been significantly improved. More sand for everyone! Mmmm, delicious.

This game is being slower than any previous one, or I am too anxious?

You are correct that this game has been slower. In the previous game we got 3.86 turns per day in the first 27 turns (and I think the average for the whole game was around 3.33 turns per day). This game it has been 2.25 turns per day so far.

Formicarium Log Cycle 30

The aquatic neighbors seem content to leave us in peace for now. Still a little disconcerted by those lasers though...

Our allies have engaged in hostilities over a remote contested system. The turf wars have begun.

Ants everywhere. The orange ones, talkative and kind, were not scary, we got into agreements of what is whom easily and painlessly.
The others, the blue ants, didn't give us an answer to our pleas of peace, so we got scared. We don't like to be scared, we used to do it all the time and it's tiresome.
Then the blue ants begun burrowing holes all over the constellation that cut off our ways to nice swampy planets. More fear. So we thought it would be a good idea to strike first. As a message that the blue, silent ants could understand. No idea if there has been some understanding already, but now we have small planet full of big blue ants and we are not sure what to do with them. Not very troublesome now that they are not in communication with their Ant Queen or whatever that rules over them. They eat plants and leave few to us, so not a good idea to coexist. Also their pincers are scary. But they seem much better than us at piloting those scary ships. Our analysts say that's because the ants do not keep staring randomly trying to dodge invisible shots and so can aim properly their own weapons. So we will try to tame them to attack the other blue ants while we graze in peace and can forget fear once again.

State Federal Press

We seem to have entered an unsteady stand-off with our xenophobic neighbour, with the stockpiling of military vessels to one of our frontiers. Interestingly enough, in between the systems in question, our scouts are just chilling together, seemingly without conflict.

Perhaps not all foot-hand peoples are bad after all, but only time will tell if the peace will be maintained.

In other news, for several weeks there had been unconfirmed reports of mass movement of Federal troops. There had been no comment from the Central Government so far, so perhaps they are only conducting exercises, or maybe they are preparing for a mi- [Broadcast Cuts Off]

In an unexpected succession of tragic events, two small troop ships paniced and rushed ahead of their escort, crashing against a fleet of blue ant ships. Death (of our kind) scares us.
