Honeycomb guarded by Sentinel

#1 Post by defaultuser »

Playing latest release. Came across a system with a Sentinel guardian. When I looked at it, the planet contained the Honeycomb special. I've never seen that with anything but the Warden guarding it (or none for no monster setup). I didn't see anything in the change log. Bug or new feature?

Just to add some more data points, in the 4 or 5 games over the last few weeks where I have seen a honeycomb special they have all been guarded by Sentinels, never Wardens.

Used to be they were only ever guarded by Wardens.

Feature. Honeycomb is too valuable.

Computronium moons can now be guarded by Sentinel or Warden.

One day we'll make Panopticon not be guarded by Sentinel, maybe just Warden.

I never learnt the names.
Both Honeycomb and Computronium are guarded by Sentinels.
Honeycomb gives +0.1 industry instead of +0.2. Documentation bug...

So the Warden is no longer used?

Honeycomb used to give 0.5 PP per population, so getting one was a huge advantage.
Now that it's been seriously nerfed, it is reasonable that it would be less heavily defended (killing a Warden was not an easy task, while killing a Sentinel with fighters is quite easy once one has enough ships, even weak ones).

Though, Computronium Moon and Honeycomb differ on an important point : Research is absolutely strategic at start, and gets much less so later (once main research and production-boosting techs have been acquired, and one military line has been pursued far enough to be able to build efficient ships).
This while Production is essential, and even more so at the end of the game, where military might is the deciding factor.

So at the time one can kill a Warden, a Computronium Moon is much less useful than a Honeycomb.
At the time one can kill a Sentinel, it's less obviously true that the Computronium Moon has lost its relevance, but I'd still say that a Honeycomb is worth more than a CM.

And also, yes, it is a bit sad that the Monster diversity is reduced by the elimination of Wardens from the game.

It was a mistake. Warden should be guarding Honeycombs, at least sometimes.
