So the works of HP Lovecraft are public domain. As such his aliens are free to use. Anyway I thought I would suggest some traits for them in Free Orion.

  • Broad Tundra Environmental Preference
  • Good Research
Elder Thing
  • Extinct Species

  • Broad Ocean Environmental Preference
  • No Research
  • Great Industry

While it is certainly possible to draw inspiration from H. P. Lovecraft's works, or make allusions to it, FreeOrion has a design principle to only have original species.
If I provided any images, code, scripts or other content here, it's released under GPL 2.0 and CC-BY-SA 3.0.

I can see that. I might re-work some of these stat blocks into other species. Maybe change planet types and metabolism.

More like reworking names and appearances. Metabolism, environment, etc. are less of a Cthulu thing.

Well of course they'd get a new name and a different look. I'd of course work out a different backstory, but I'd still try to keep in nice a creepy

Even for Public Domain ones?
Is there a reason for this ?

It is a conscious decision to create only original content, rather than copying.
