I like it, too!

But Gas Giants should be excluded, otherwise Sly simply get -3 Stability.

actually if based on supply, it should only be a -1, the -3 would be based on virtual habitable size
but also agreed, gas giants are not like other planets.

what about asteroids. stable or not? id say +0 stability is fine for gameplay.
maybe -1 for fluff (hard dangerous life), and it also ties in with exobot great happiness which helps if one is living in asteroid belts.
OTOH the environment mechanism should take care of "hard dangerous life"

similar way for Sly would be -2 (or -1 or -3) stability on gas giants, good stability for sly (and perhaps making the environment count for stability).

Why? re: asteroids and this subject in general?
For the subject in general:

why (fluff):
Smaller colonies are easier to maintain and manage then large sprawling colonies.

why(gameplay):
  • It gives an extra benefit to otherwise less useful small planets and an extra obstacle to otherwise strong large/huge planets. Moderating player luck.
  • Its an extra way to get stability for a player struggling to reach useful levels, use small planets
  • Its another way to create variance, other then all planets of species x having identical stability. A bit of extra player agency.
downside:
An extra label and increased complication (guess thats a pro and con)

I don't understand why exobots would ever revolt and/or have stability penalties. They are semi-autonomous robots built to work, after all. Just give them +50 stability.

I sometimes wonder if exobots should just have their fluff changed. They mostly count as a normal race, changing their description to rudimentary conciousness would be easier then making them an exception to everything. Why do they revolt? Why do they get bonuses from distributed thought network? Why x? Why y? Why...

+1 I anyway think about them at some kind of mix of animal/industry robot at the brink of full sentience.
They are able to do research. Maybe "Semi-conscious" instead of "Semi-autonomous".

Would be nice. Could changes be prepared as PR, maybe even introduce them with game rule.
Gentoo Linux x64, gcc-11.2, boost-1.78.0
Ubuntu Server 22.04 x64, gcc-12, boost-1.74.0

Are the game rule tabs auto-genned? If gov has a bunch of game rules it could go in its own option tab.

Yes, you just need entry in string table for category: https://github.com/freeorion/freeorion/ ... d.cpp#L180

Ok I'll also add a rule to change the bonus from defense focus.
