In this topic was discussed the possibility of having more differences in Species planetary defenses.
The more classic way is to do it with Species traits : good planetary defenders, good shielders.
But the more interesting way (to complement the above) would be to make each Species have a different defense systems : Abaddoni would have a big underground gun (one big shot, similar to what we have now), Phinnert would have many low-damage fighters, Mu Urshes may have a lower number of higher-damage fighters, George would have multiple shots of limited damage, and so on (combinations may be interesting also, to add diversity).
Is there a way to do that in FOCS or does it require background changes ?

Re: Species-specific planetary defense
It's not a matter of FOCS, but basic game mechanics. Planets have a single defense meter, which determines the damage of their per-combat-round single shot. Making planets work differently in combat would require adding some way to track the relevant statistics.
A workaround might be to spawn some ships in a system with a planet that could then independently participate in combat. Probably these would be unable to move.
