The Stability mechanisms we have now include a penalty or bonus for being far/close to the Capitol/an Imperial Administrative Center.
What about having a Trait that would make some Species get a bonus/malus from being close/far to their Homeworld also ?
And maybe too from being close/far from other Colonies of the same Species ?
Like "ultimately gregarious" would get +5 stability from being in the same system than their Homeworld, and each Starlane jump away from it would make it lower by one point (so at more than 5 starlane jumps it gets negative).
"very gregarious" would get +3 initially but only lose 0.5 per Starlane Jump.
"quite gregarious" would get +2 initially but only lose 0,25 per Starlane jump.
"mildly gregarious" would get +1 initially but only lose 0,1 per Starlane Jump.
If we want adjacent Colonies to also affect stability, we could have a bonus of N/S for each other Colony, with :
N = The Trait value (4 for Ultimate, 3 for Very, 2 for Quite and 1 for Mildly)
S = The squared distance (in number of Starlane Jumps I guess) from that Colony
I guess that no Playable Species should have the Ultimate trait, and maybe only one or two very specific Playable Species have that trait at all, since it would constrain a lot their Colonization pattern.
But for able-to-colonize Natives, that could be fun.
