No serious but rather easy and inocuous to fix: some of the sitreps about spotted black krakens, bloated juggernauts, etc. from Experimentors say 3 monsters spotted when it's 2.

Giving time to solve #3111 could be good.

Hm, none of those sound that serious, not enough to warrant making another RC IMO. But if there is a strong demand for these fixes to be included into 0.4.10, I won't object - Geoff?

I don't know if Issue #3111 is important to fix or not... It spams the AI logs quite a bit, which is annoying but not game-breaking. But I don't know whether it actually affects AI tech choices. I hoped Cjkjvfnby would clarify that...

Edit: It probably don't need to hold up the release... https://github.com/freeorion/freeorion/ ... -663652007

Ok, this means nothing has come up that is serious enough to warrant making another release candidate. Which means I'm going to declare RC1 as the official release later today as planned, in a few hours (probably around 1pm UTC). Unless someone wants to object, so this is the last chance. Final call... ;)

Also available via snap in track "0.4.10".
Also set the default track to 0.4.10 from 0.4.9, so new installs will follow that release.

If you already have freeorion installed, you can get the release via

Code: Select all

sudo snap refresh freeorion channel=0.4.10/stable
Any code or patches in anything posted here is released under the CC and GPL licences in use for the FO project.

Well, I had to wait for all issues to be addressed, which is almost done - the only thing left is cherry picking #3159, which I couldn't do because of merge conflicts (see my comment here).

Geoff has made an attempt (commit df73fb4, but we need you to review that and check and confirm if it's ok.

Once that's done, I'll update the changelog (will probably put up a PR for that for review), and then we're ready for 0.4.10.1 RC1. Should be possible next Sunday already if we work quickly enough.

0.4.10.1 is ready for the first release candidate. As far as I can see, all critical issues have been addressed, all PRs merged/cherry picked.

I've compiled an update to the changelog and put up a PR: #3164. Please, everyone who contributed to fixes/improvements which got into the bugfix release, review the changelog update and provide your suggestions for corrections or improvements (if I missed something, got something wrong, or if something could be better worded, etc.).

I'll merge the PR before I proceed with making the RC1 builds.

Planned deadline for RC1: coming Sunday, September 13th 2020, 1pm UTC.

Note to our playtesters: I know, it's probably a bit annoying/frustrating to go back to 0.4.10 gameplay after having been able to play with all the shiny new stuff in master, but th 0.4.10.1 release candidate really needs playtesting. So, if you can spare a bit of your FO time and play at least one or two games with RC1 when it gets out, that would be very much appreciated... :D

0.4.10.1 RC1 has been released.

Because of its importance I want to reiterate: To all our playtester, please sacrifice some of your FO time to playtesting the release candidate. I know, playing around with test builds of master is probably more fun and interesting, but the bugfix release needs some testing too. Bugfixes have the potantial to introduce other bugs unfortunately, so we need to do some quality control.

To give enough time for playtesting, the deadline for declaring the official 0.4.10.1 release will be Wednesday September 23rd, 5pm UTC.

Ok, there will be a RC2. I'm going to provide the new release candidate builds coming Sunday.

Deadline: Sunday September 20th 2020, 1pm UTC

To give enough time to test RC2, I'm moving the deadline for declaring the 0.4.10.1 release to Friday September 25th, 1pm UTC.

0.4.10.1 RC2 has been released.

I decided to go ahead with this despite there being one open issue (#3172) assigned to the 0.4.10.1 milestone, as there actually has been provided a fix (simply raising the min required boost version to 1.60).

If I understand correctly, #3172 has been left open because a more thorough fix might be provided which makes building FO with boost 1.58 possible again. However, assuming that being able to build FO only with boost 1.60+ should be sufficient for 0.4.10.1, I felt free to go ahead with RC2 to avoid further delays. #3172 consequently should be assigned to the 0.5 milestone.

If however 0.4.10.1 should be compatible with boost 1.58, then another release candidate will be necessary.

Geoff?

That aside, everyone who can, please playtest RC2! :D
