Rapport - The Most Of All

You keep developing, but for whom? an average of 300 users visit this site everyday and 99% of them are guests.
That subreddit has got around 27 members right now. We should display the most coolest
of stuff that happens here over there. Even if its a 3 year old fan-art. I am not saying waste your time posting
all the time there, if you just confirm that you are the moderators, you could moderate the page, maybe increase
the coverage the game gets.
16 days ago someone asked a question like "whatever happened to this game?"
he didnt know of course, since you didnt post about 4.8

Lets look up some interesting things. Post a big sticky for all the members on this community, to become a subreddit member, whether they use it or not.
Numbers do magic sometimes

If you would like to post on the FreeOrion subreddit about the latest developments and releases, you are free and encouraged to do so. Having you or someone else doing that could be very helpful and would be appreciated.

I don't expect or want any/everyone else who contributes to FreeOrion development or in forum discussions to do so, though. Dev discussions happen here and on github, not on Reddit. The limited time I and most other dev contributors have is, for me, better spent doing dev-related stuff, rather than regularly putting time and mental energy into monitoring or moderating another forum...

Which makes that sort of promotion and external community engagement a great opportunity for an interested and motivated non-dev person to contribute to FreeOrion.

I mean, I occasionally read Reddit, and I think checked out the sub for FreeOrion some time ago, but I'm not bothering to register just for that.

Today I replied to the two most recent posts on the subreddit (both posted 2-3 weeks ago, each already with one reply; the only two posts in the last 9 months or so). Now that i know it exists i will help to keep an eye on it, at least for a while (no promises).

I'll try to remember to post there when the next release version is deployed.

THX! No promises required buddy..
The next time we post an update,we make sure to backlink the forum, and post an image of the game background. Since all other posts were dull..
Dont force your hand when you dont feel like replying though XD

Well it's not like we really need to do marketing... the content of the game "sells" itself, i'd say.
Dont force your hand when you dont feel like replying though XD
Understood, thank you for that.

"The content of the game sells itself.."

For that to happen the game must atleast be downloaded by people. Not marketing, "reaching out". For instance, you like this game, but can you be sure if even 10 people got to know about this game from you? Using the resources online, like reddit, etc.. are the only way to get this to players who might like this stuff. I cant know for sure how far this gonna help this game's development. But it should happen nevertheless..

I did post a couple times about it to a financial forum that had Consumer sub. I don't know if that lead to anything. Is there any way to determine how many new players are coming in?

Maybe something like this is useful?

It shows only Windows and MacOS users.

And only sourceforge downloads. Recent releases are, I think, hosted on github and provably downloaded from there directly fairly often...

There are also referrer logs for the freeorion.org website, though that can be difficult to interpret as numbers of (new) players...

For linux distributions we probably will not get that information.

For the snaps we actually get info about the number of installations on active computers (which version; which linux distribution; which country; and timeline).

I am not sure what info is public https://snapcraft.io/freeorion/metrics or only available if you are registered.
Also right now that service has some problems (nw probs and the search API service is down https://status.snapcraft.io/), so better try clicking later on ;)

Well, I thought about that of course. Due to the nature of the project, many downloads will be existing users getting the latest test build. It's difficult to separate them. Probably most of the downloads of the last stable build are new, but a new user could go for that, the latest build, or conceivably some other build.

I got the admin rights for our reddit page. Tried to make it look better, Dunno how good it is..
https://www.reddit.com/r/FreeOrion/
It will be great if any of the admins, devs, and artists here could volunteer for admin roles. Since there are only 29 members so basically you just need to check in once a week.. not a big deal. But do it. Reply me with your reddit profile id.

AND do not view the thread in night-mode of reddit.

I repeat: No players pls. Just those who already control and contribute content here.
