I just want to mention that scaling, hulls, Buildings, Tech, Parts works really well, allowing a much faster game.
I have not played any multi player games, but scaling would allow short fast games.
Anyway you all may already be doing that, but just in case I thought I would mention it.

Yes, I set galaxy size and scale in my multiplayer games to manage expected game speed.
