Reading the ingame pedia i can understand what is the relation between Target population and maximux population.
Also i can see the target population value in the planet panel. Can i see somewhere the max value?
(Newbie) What is the relation of max and target Population ?

Re: (Newbie) What is the relation of max and target Population ?
I don't think there is any meaningful concept of "max population" with regard to planets.
There is a target population, toward which the actual population moves (up or down) each turn.
Where do you see references to a planet's "maximum population" in the pedia?

Population
The Population represents the size of a colony on a planet. Its maximum value depends on the Species and how suitable the planet's Environment is for that species. Many Industry and Research output bonuses are linked to the Population size: larger Population gives more bonuses.

For most newcomers, Target in FreeOrion is "Current Maximum" ("current" because it can change thanks to getting new techs specials, etc.).
In the Pedia for Population we have (1st paragraph):

Re: (Newbie) What is the relation of max and target Population ?
Now i understand.
But wouldnt it be less ambiguous to speak only of Max population of planet and add that
that value could change in relation to other game variables.
For example when i see: i get confused.
Now after your explanation i read it 'my planet has reached it max pop = 20'
But initially id didnt make sense. By default my expectations would be of my first planet to have some growth.
And i think 'target' means, i want to. But 'max' as a concept i think is neutral. You may dont want to.
Also i want to add that the adjective 'stable' as in
i thinks overload more the bare concept of 'current max population'The Target Population is the stable Population size a planet will approach,

There are max meters as well. A meter is always cut down to the max meter value.
A meter typically slowly decreases to lower target meter
