Problem with new game in Windows XP
I've installed FreeOrion 0.3.15 under Windows XP 32-bit (Home Edition, Service Pack 3) and when I select “New Game” in the menu, when I click ok after selecting the option, the game freezes on a black screen. I've tried FreeOrion 0.3.14 and the problem is the same, I've also updated the driver of my graphic card GeForce 8800 GT, and still the games doesn't run.
There is a way to solve the problem?

Can you make sure your firewall isn't blocking freeOrion? It's necessary for the client to communicate with it's serverapplication(freeoriond.exe).

Yes I deactivated the firewall, and the game has the same problem.

Are you running FreeOrion in windowed mode or full screen? If the latter, try windowed mode. There might be a windows popup that you're not seeing that's relevant to the problem... From the logs, it does appear there's some problem with communication between the server and client, which is often firewall related, though if you're sure you've disabled that, then I'm not sure what else to suggest.

It is strange. On my old computer with GeForce 6600GT(which is worse card) FreeOrion was running pretty well. Try newest driver from NVidia.

Graphics drivers are unlikely to have anything to do with apparent networking / interprocess communication problems...OndrejR wrote:Try newest driver from NVidia.

If FO client crashed or didn't send message, then server will be waiting. I had similar problem and updating driver helped. But that may not be solution to the problem in this case. It may be related somehow to this bug. I randomly had similar problem but cannot reproduce.
