"Toothless" AI

I need to say. Maybe it was already discussed...

I don't know clearly, when it was started (maybe after last big update, with Stockpile and Sly), but now AI became completely "toothless". :( I remember how it was earlier: normal AI was good rivals; agressive AI was hard rivals; maniacal was a nightmare. If you are spotted maniacal opponent - just one thing you want is to run away) as far as you can... to another Universe... To another life...

Now I feel pain when I destroy any maniacal AI. :( :( :( "Kiddo, why did you not colonise all of those planets??? For WHAT reason?... Why do you send those fleet to me? You want to see how beautiful they will die?.. What? Does you are scared by those terrible krakens?" :D Sorry if I'm too emotional. But I feels like I killing children playing at the sandbox.

Is somebody else faced this problem? Maybe "a lot of monsters" do they too week? I want old AI back. :)

Can you identify a particular version where the AI was still good, or when it started not being good?

As said, check and report the versions played it would really help.

I have zero technical knowledge but the option is not worded as difficulty level, it is worded as level of aggressiveness. Someone too aggressive becomes weak again, especially if they leave planet unsettled, as seems to be the case. I guess try maniacal on a small map with high density of planets and neighbor as a non military (/industry) oriented species without reloads and you should suffer.

You might also have improve yourself, there are some few ways to exploit the AI which makes the game quite easier, like slaughtering undefended troop ships for example. And even just getting good makes other look bad.

This.

One way to make AIs "stupid" is to have the right amount of ships in the right place. They react to the perceived thread, putting more resources on pumping more ships and less into getting better techs or more colonies. This, in turn, makes them lose momentum and, after some time without ever fighting it, you have twice as fleet as it had and you can now attack and see how AI retreats.

This can be used (with some skills) to revert a very bad situation, as can be an AI empire that doubles your RPs and PPs.

Think it was started before 0.4.8 (in 0.4.7.1 all was ok).

Sorry, didn't understand. :( Why they becomes weak? Yes, that's right, they don't settling all of the planets (and even systems).

Do you mean to allow them to pump industry better (as will allow their increased PP) and attack me with bigger power?

Interesting. Yes, I always wondered, how they can reach "asteroid hulls when I just pumped robotic". So, they just putting more in military to something like blitz attack, as well as we spead power evenly and don't rush.

Maybe playing in 0.4.7 I was not very good in FreeOrion so they did kills me before I create strong enough empire. :)

Usually we used random races and big amount of monsters (also husband noticed that small amount of systems (or balance of free systems and AI amount) makes AI more powerfull (they have enough space to live). Monsters make AI's weaker, so we decrease their amount.

I remembered one thing from last games. It was about the 200st round and I meeted AI who taked just 4-5 planets (planets, not systems). When I attacked him, AI (I think) started to pump Environment forcely and taked all of planets that was still free. It pretty confirms hypothesis about AI's orientation on military. Starting the game they take all planets that they can (which have base good environment for them), my rival had only Egassem, so he couldn't take a lot of planets.

So, I understand, if I want hard game I need to choose somebody like George to rivals. :)

I will try that, hope It will helps us. Thanks everybody for your advices, anyway. ^_^

Need to say. Don't know, was there something changes or not, but we played the last test builds and I need to say, now AI is very bold. ^___^ We taked minor of monsters or "without monsters", a lot of planet and specials, maybe all of that helps them to enslave everithing that moving.
