- I'm getting the 'A battle occurred in X' message the every time my (or any other) ship is in any system, sometimes even for Deep Space. Quite annoying.
- why is the same place often labelled as say, 'Silk' in the Fleet window and as 'Deep Space' elsewhere?
These bugs have both been fixed in SVN.

I found this: http://freeorion.svn.sourceforge.net/vi ... /?view=tar

Does it work? I've tried nearly 10 times and every time my download stops randomly... does not get over 20 MBs before it fails, saying it can't read the file or smth like that...

Use Subversion to download the FreeOrion source code.

I downloaded Tortoise SVN, but have no idea how to use it... (English is not my first language).

Any pointers?

First, be aware that just downloading the source code doesn't do you any good. You'll want to get the Win32 SDK (for Visual Studio 2008 or 2010 - your choice) from sourceforge and unpack it. Then, if TortoiseSVN is installed, you can right-click the freeorion directory, and pick Update to get the latest version. Then, you'll want to have the same version of Visual Studio installed as the SDK version you got, and should load the FreeOrion solution file and build it.

I think I'll pass. Too much hassle.
I'll just wait for the next compiled version.

I can't deinstall Tortoise SVN. I tried manually deleting it, but some files don't want to be deleted. Help...

Randomly deleting files in computer program installed under windows is a bad idea.

You should have used the add/remove programs feature of windows:
http://tortoisesvn.tigris.org/faq.html#uninstall
at this point, I have no idea if it would work, as you may have deleted the very files tortoise uses to uninstall itself.
