Can you rerun the commands as before (make with VERBOSE=1 and running the last compiler/linker call with the -v flag added)?

For a solution see https://github.com/freeorion/freeorion/pull/1046 ; could you please test if the fix works for you?

Updated the force-phoenix-version, same results:

Are you sure you're on the right branch (check with `git status`)? As you can see the PR fixed the Issue for another user and the PR was already merged.

Ok, removed the old directory fetched again with git, compiled got to 100% but ended up with the same problem. Did a pull, clean build and this time it compiled fine with a9cabda. So, dunno what was going on but seems ok now.

There is a difference between 'fetching' and 'checking out', which both are different from 'pull'.

Well, didn't do a pull with starting over on it. Did a clone initially to 'fetch' it then a pull after that when it failed to compile.
