Re: New FreeOrion Me vs 3 AIs video commentary.
revision 5445
"Removed loophole that made Exobot Origin buildings cheaper than building Exobot colony ships on Exobot worlds. Sorry yandonman."
Growth boosting resources do work -- each for a certain subset of species.
If you don't know what a species can do-- i.e. the Fifty-seven, look them up in the 'Pedia.

Re: New FreeOrion Me vs 3 AIs video commentary.
On Growth specials... what subset? It says "Organic" and I presumed that Trith were organic.
(ok: after digging through the 'pedia: Trith apparently don't have a 'type' - they're neither organic, robotic or other. Is this intended?)
While looking something up in the 'pedia is certainly something I can understand considering where FO is in the development cycle, not presenting pertinent information when and where it's needed is sub-optimal from a usability perspective. (my apologies if you didn't mean "go look it up" as dismissive)

Re: New FreeOrion Me vs 3 AIs video commentary.
They were labeled as self-sufficient. Which was slightly wrong, corrected in revision 5448 to "Self-Sustaining". Which means:yandonman wrote:On Growth specials... what subset? It says "Organic" and I presumed that Trith were organic.

Self-Sustaining species may be energy or crystalline beings or something even stranger. Their commonality is that they need no sustenance, so their max population is very high. While there are no specials that boost their growth, their max population is equal to a species that is provided with all three growth specials.
I've recommended that a right click on species and special icons takes the player right to the relevant 'Pedia article.yandonman wrote:While looking something up in the 'pedia is certainly something I can understand considering where FO is in the development cycle, not presenting pertinent information when and where it's needed is sub-optimal from a usability perspective. If there are other locations were pertinent info is missing (and no doubt there are), please point it out.

Downloaded, looks very cool! Hopefully I'll learn from it.

It does, sort of, for specials.eleazar wrote:I've recommended that a right click on species and special icons takes the player right to the relevant 'Pedia article.
Re: New FreeOrion Me vs 3 AIs video commentary.
Is there a way to add links within the text of the 'pedia entries? Some of the text in the 'pedia entries is "flavor", but some of it has functional implications. For example: Trith: "Bereaved xenophobic telepaths." Bereaved and xenophobic have no effect on game play, however, telepaths does. Since they were all presented on the same line, with the same format, it's reasonable to assume that they are all similar in some fashion - aka: they are just flavor. But that's wrong in this case.
(also, the wheal of habitability is a beautiful graphic and should be used in the species 'pedia entries to indicate planet type preference http://www.freeorion.org/index.php/File:EP_wheel.png)

Yes; see most of the entries in the game concepts section.yandonman wrote:Is there a way to add links within the text of the 'pedia entries?
There is no mechanism for adding graphics within encyclopedia text.the wheal of habitability is a beautiful graphic and should be used in the species 'pedia entries...
Re: New FreeOrion Me vs 3 AIs video commentary.
Ouch, and here I was hoping for the habitability wheel in the 'Pedia too...
Yandonman, I watched the first half-hour of the video and don't see how your playing strategy differs from mine, aside from the fact you researched Robotic Hulls quickly...

Re: New FreeOrion Me vs 3 AIs video commentary.
What's your race selection? (I tend to favor Trith and recently learned that they have a "max growth" special... which helps)

Now it can for species also...Geoff the Medio wrote:It does, sort of, for specials.eleazar wrote:I've recommended that a right click on species and special icons takes the player right to the relevant 'Pedia article.

Once we finalize 0.4.2 i think it would be great if you did another video, with an emphasis on showing 4X players new to FO the ropes of how to play. So far a lot of the videos out there largely feature people being confused.

Yeah; I totally agree. Will do.

Re: New FreeOrion Me vs 3 AIs video commentary.
Do you want to post an updated video on your channel, or would you prefer to put it on the FreeOrion Channel?
Re: New FreeOrion Me vs 3 AIs video commentary.
I'll try uploading to the FreeOrion place. What needs to happen to allow me to do that?
