freecraft and what we should learn

#1 Post by trace »

have a look at http://games.slashdot.org/article.pl?si ... 86&tid=210

FreeOrion could also be to near at Orion123, so FreeOrion should not be that related to the Orion Series. What about a contract with Atari that FreeOrion is not in danger to be illegal.

This has come up before.

We aren't going to contact Atari for any reason, because our project has nothing to do with them. If we explicitly asked them for anything they would be more likely to try and shut us down. FreeCiv has been doing fine; the *craft series is part of a lucrative set of properties that is really Blizzard's trademark series (that or Diablo) and they are highly protective of it.

This project has nothing to do with Atari or any of its properties. Are we influenced somewhat by their MOO series? Sure. We're also influenced by Europa Universalis and SMAC. We are not using any material from MOO at all; the names of star systems that we have in common with any MOO release is coincidental, and very likely because they are actual star systems or galactic 'landmarks' -- like, say....just for an example...Orion.
