O.K. seems I forgot to give some stats. 28, Germany, engineer, MOO2 fan. Quite new at the forum - I am just participating in brainstormung yet. Interested in doing some programming for free orion but I have first to figure out more about your project, whether you still need help in programming and how much spare time I will have during the next months.

I'm a CS student, just got my BS, starting on the MS this fall. I've always wanted to develop games. Writing development support apps in VB for a biotech company is sometimes intriguing, but usually pretty dull.

I have a BS in computer science, a BS in music and I recently quit my job as an electronics engineer to be a software developer for a bank. I'm going for an MS in software design & management at CMU probably next year.

I'm an IS student.

I'm near the end of my 3rd year for my Infomation Systems degree. My classes have mostly revolved around database design and systems analysis.

I like RTS games and games like Moo2, as well as RPGs.

I'm an old member but heres some history.

I'm a double major EE/Math with a minor in Fizix. I also have been playing computer games sense Wolf3d. Though i like TBS better than FPSs or RTSs. Of course there are a few necessary exceptions. Deus Ex, Rise of Nations, Half-Life etc.

Droped out of University of Arizona early in a Geology degree and am now looking to learn about and partispate in game development. I have always though about game design and studied games for their differences. I play most types of games with StarCraft being my all time favorite, SMAC is my favorite Civ based game and Team Fortress my favorite FPS, Heros of Might and Magic 3 my favorite RPG (but its half strategy realy). I only resently got into Masters of Orion, I played the Original and loved it, got the second resently and like it much less, have never played the third.

Don't waste your money on MoO3! Check with Amazon and see if they are still giving it away with another purchase.

Am lead dev for a online (open source) Browser based game (space based of course :) ), & run my own server for it (se.purely.info).
Liked MOO1 most of the 3 MOO's. Like Star's a lot too.

Am trying to offer my web dev skills here, but they don't seem to be needed :( ... So just making random suggestions and trying to cause havoc instead ;)

Try making your offer heard by the right people. A random statement buried somewhere in a thread about a different topic might go unheeded. Try pming one of our leaders like tyreth for example. He'll tell you where where you'll be slaving... erm... WORKING in the future ;)

He already has :) There's just no web work that needs to be done at the moment - but possibly some time in the future.

Nightfish: made general offer to tyreth my e-mail, and a specialised programming related offer to ocean. Negative on both.
But i'm sure i'll think of something that they need.
Even if they don't realise it... ;)

Intorducing myself

#28 Post by miu »

Hello everyone
Just recently found out about this project and I'm quite excited about it. I'm big fan of Moo2 and space genre in general, and I've been searching for a while for a interesting game project to contribute, this seems just perfect :)

So, I'm 23yo, located Helsinki/Finland.
Second year student 3d-graph/virtual design on Evtek institute of Art and design.

Once I get some picture of current state of project, how it's organised and what is currently needed, I'll contribute to graphs, and to brainstorming :)

//edit - just felt like saying this :) :
Immersion is the issue I take most personally with freeorion project. As we have lots of capable people in every area of project, and without any intention to step on anyone's toes, I keep close eye to each aspect regarding Immersion. It was what I thought to be biggest failure of MOO3, so I want to be certain that it wouldnt happen again. (as if I had any doubts :) ) I believe I can be for some help as I have experience regarding storytelling and graphics, though there certainly are people more experienced than myself.
Some of my schoolwork renderings can be seen at: http://www.kolumbus.fi/ohmi/3d.htm

I've had a computer since I was 9, and playin games on them since I was 9 and 1 day. I don't program anything but HTML, but I do have some knowledge of creating various sounds and loops using programs like Fruit Loops and Sonic Foundry software.

I have BETA tested for recent games like: EQ, and Magic: The Gathering Online...

I have played MOO1, 2 and 3 (and yes I agree about 3: "what the HELL were they thinking?") as well as a slew of other games.

I'm here mostly to throw in my ideas about makin this game FUN.. and to try to KEEP it fun after it's been mastered
It's tough at the top, tough at the bottom, hard to survive, in a world of destruction

I found out about this effort yesterday and I registered today.
I was (and still am) a huge fan of MOO 1 & 2 but I got disappointed with MOO3 mostly because of the new research method. I loved picking the technologies myself like MOO2. Anyway, I liked the idea of this project.
I'm a computer engineering student at the 5th (and last) year. Unfortunately I'm quite busy and I can't help much. But I'll try to stay tuned to this forum and contribute in whatever way I can ;)
