Good for me.

I'd say, if LienRag is able to install the Ubuntu PPA or download source and compile or fix his snap installation in less than 24h, we'll be good. If he don't show up in that time, he'll be hardly able to keep up with a 24h-turn game.

I managed to log in yesterday late evening, just missed the URL, but thanks to oO1eg I'm now ready :)

Today I made a quick test with my second PC and the snap install on fedora linux 33. I managed to login without problems. Maybe LienRag doesn't have problems with the version but with the network (firewall maybe).
As far as I see, there is no automatic version check on the multiplayer window. I just typed in my nick, choose "join game" and typed in the URL. There was no loading afterwards. As I hit "OK" the connection was established. So I really think LienRag has no problem with the version, it's something else...

By the way: I hit the test-server yesterday at turn 3 and realized an counter was going on (5 Minutes each turn), I think that time is dropped at the real game, isn't it?

Yes, for real game I set 23 hours timeout for turn and it could be less if all players made their turn.

Switch to current stable (which is currently the same as the 0.4.10 track): snap refresh freeorion --channel=latest/stable
I typed this exact command (+ sudo before it) and it doesn't change the current FreeOrion I have on my computer.
What is the output (sudo should be the right thing to do)?

Also what is the output of: snap info freeorion

After examining the result of "sudo snap refresh" I saw that apparently it didn't work, I missed the error message as the output was a large nearly unreadable block of text, my mistake.
That ?*@!* Tracker program from Gnome had used all the free space on my /home folder so there weren't enough space for the new snap channel.
I freed space (wasn't able to remove Tracker though) and now it worked.
Here's the output if it still matters :

Code: Select all

freeorion v0.4.10.1 from A333 (agrrr3) refreshed

snap info freeorion :

Code: Select all

snap info freeorion

Oh, and the "OK button is grayed" thing was apparently just because I did not change the login name (human player).
I didn't get an answer about whether we'll use our forum names or new ones, though.

And when I introduced freeorion-lt.dedyn.io and clicked OK, freeorion just crashed.

Yes, o01eg told you that.
I didn't get an answer about whether we'll use our forum names or new ones, though.
Don't worry, no body will get it on you. Each player uses the name he wants. I'm Oberlus.
(Edit: with current implementation, it makes no sense to try to conceal your name with a random identifier, forum users can query each other about what name they got in-game, or where in the galaxy they spawned.)

I don't mind restarting game on next tuesday. I like the species I got but it's OK.

So, can you already connect to the public server (there is another server, AFAIR)?

I tried again and FreeOrion crashed again.
Here's what the console showed :

Code: Select all

terminate called after throwing an instance of 'boost::exception_detail::clone_impl<boost::exception_detail::error_info_injector<boost::system::system_error> >'
what(): resolve: Host not found (authoritative)
Abandon (core dumped)

Were you trying to connect to freeorion-lt.dedyn.io? Your player isn't registered in that game and should not allow you to connect. But it should not crash (I've tested it: connecting with an unregistered player name like "Testing" or "KK" brought me to the OTP window, in which I could only Cancel or introduce a wrong password).
If you are trying to connect to the other free server (can't remember the address) and it crashes, maybe that server is not updated or it's offline and that causes your crash.
The FO version you report is the right one.

He registered on the server so he should be able to get to the lobby and chat.

freeorion-test.dedyn.io is available and shares users with slow game one.

I use forum logins if I wasn't told otherwise and I post table in the start post.

Client should not crashed on host issue but it looks strange, if somehow you cannot resolve host you could try IPs 45.43.14.42 or 2604:f440:2:0:bd1a:6f9a:e66e:1.

I read it and thought it is fine if you can make turn once a day so when you could go full-speed we will play some turn already.

I'm fine with resetting the game to add you but first we need to make you login here.

Geoff, I see in logs you tried to login. I registered you as "Geoff" as I don't like to deal with space symbols in logins. Logins is case-insensitive although.
