May be it's better to setup a public server (one more), to allow to view the current situation?
I have no knowledge (yet? now?) to do that.
I don't know what that means.

No, I am not. But we was told at school, that in modern times ALL people should be able to solve their tasks with computers. So everyone should learn basics of programming.
defaultuser wrote: Thu Jan 09, 2020 6:56 amI don't know what that means.
The game software consists from 2 parts - the client graphical user interface, and the server backend which keeps the galaxy and calculate moves. I propose to run the server part on some computer, and allow to connect to it from the internet, like discribed in some thread in this forum about server setup

What can be calculated from the observed part:
1) number of star spots opened
2) number of starlanes (internal and leading to unknown regions)
3) average length of starlanes
4) diameter (longest path between known spots) of explored space
5) percentage of different planet types

What I want to know about the galaxy?
I want to know what to build - scouts, outposts or troopships.

I already have a scout and an outpost ship in the queue, but situation is not much clearer then in previous turn. What's better - to finish the additional scout, or to start a troopship? How many new starlines to unknown regions will be opened next turn? We can estimate this from existing data.

I would suggest you concentrate on playing the game and speeding that process up. Right now you'll be taking months to get anywhere and years to complete. Likely everyone will lose interest.

Turn 3

#19 Post by Uriuk »

I added a TroopShip into production queue in turn 2 (in order to invest production points into different ship types to diversify financial risks).
3 New star systems was explored:
- Russel (Large Swamp)
- Wormwood (Medium Swamp, Medium Ocean with "Tidally Locked Rotation")
- Rha β (Gas Giant)

2 Researches was finished:
- Planetary Ecology
- The Physical Brain

Will start production of Automated History Analyzer, nothing to colonize yet, so send Colony Ship to the homeworld (and battleship too).

I want to read something about the development for freeorion, but don't know where to start. In particular, I don't understand how strings are extracted from resources. But there are a lot of such questions.
As I wrote above, I want to add my own command, and that requires adding a string into resources. But I didn't digged into how all this works.

This is just way too slow. Given the size of the universe and number of AIs, you're looking at 350+ turns. You've done three. These are the turns you should have mapped out at once and been hammering away. I'm not going to bother with any other input unless you drastically speed up.

I hope you can get some free time to play more than a turn per week.

It's not really worth my time to provide input, due to the pace. Given the size of the universe selected, you're looking at probably 300-400 turns. You've done five turns in a month. At this pace it will take more than five years to complete. And your game version will get farther and farther out of date.

You need to regroup and come up with a new plan.

I wouldn't say he wants any input. I think the purpose of this thread is self-edification.

Perhaps you're right. In that case, the thread is even less useful. I think I've said all I have on the matter, so I'll see how far he goes with it.

What a surprise! :)
Well, I hope next time you will play a real game (50-100 turns in single hour instead of 1 turn every two weeks) to get the feeling of it. I find it way more interesting than chess.
