Why the Ion Storm that swaq sees has horizontal bars (as the planets when they are hidden to you due to their stealth)? It is as if it was the ghost sensor of an Ion Storm?

Ah, interesting, I hadn't noticed that before. I can't dismiss it like a ghost sensor. Very bizarre.

Disaster!

On the recently taken world of Ileenium I just yesterday, a military campaign was conducted against suspected labour camps being ran in the mountainsides by the foot-hand people who had evaded capture. In the ensuing chaos of combat, the remaining garrison was annihilated without much of a fight, while the camps were forcibly liberated.

Unfortunately this find happened too late, as the remaining post-invasion civilian population of the foot-hand peoples remained merely in the 3 digits count, leading to the planet being reclassified as a Class V world, practically uninhabited, and undoing weeks of recovery as an entirely new population would have to be space-lifted to the planet, adding to the already enormous task of rebuilding the infrastructure and economy of the planet.

This presents yet another setback in the efforts to unlock the mystery that is telepathy, as the remaining survivors are simply too weak to contribute much of importance.

The Herd can listen to some radioemmissions from the Sneaky Empire, talking about how bad was it to lose most of the Bullying Foot-Hand people in a far away planet. These gasbags must be crazy. Good riddance, we say!
The Herd is beholding with pleasure how the Blue Ant Empire is getting rid of his own Foot-Hand bullies from one of his radiactive planets in preparation for our acclaimed arrival. We praise and thank them for such a smart and kind movement, since we ourselves couldn't do better (we indeed prefer the planet empty for our attentive Exobots). Anyways, we don't forget we are at war, a war that the Mute Blue Ants provoked. Anticipating a not very likely demand from the Mutes or their Annoying allies, be sure of this: We will not make a step back on the territory we've acquired thanks to our cunning military strategy. Meiji System is now the rightful property of The Herd, and we'll defend it with our lifes! Well, at least our pet ants warrior's lifes...
<The Ant Minister For The Herd Council clears his throat> Sir...
We'll defend Meiji with the lifes of our brave Ant warriors!!

JonCST, another turn you didn't play. I think it's been three times already in this game. Certainly not good for your survival, and indeed a bummer for those that would like to play at least two turns a day.
Out of my bare selfishness, would you consider getting someone to take care of your account when you can't connect twice a day? Maybe Hyperant could do it.
Or, given that you've lost your army, most of your planets (that I can see; maybe you have many planets within Hyperant's space), and your homeworld, you could consider gifting your remaining, unseized planets to your more active ally to help him and let the game advance at a faster pace.

Southern Events

Over the past few weeks, while our Federal forces in the North-West had entered a stalemate with the foot-hand peoples, a strange empire to the south has blitzkrieg-ed through our ally's imperial land, taking planets right left and center in rapid succession, taking advantage of our friend's inapt leadership. The most recent event has seen the conquest of their Imperial Capital. In an act that is outright disgraceful and barbaric, they presented the Emperor who had bravely stayed behind to defend his world in front of his palace, and in front of televised interstellar media, promptly and swiftly removed his head before ramming it through a spike, for all to see.

Faced with the collapsing empire and the death of his close friend, the Enlightened Leader has personally ordered the redeployment of Federal forces to our southern frontier to protect strategic interests while still leaving a strong force in the northwest to keep the foot-hand peoples checked.

With an interim government in place, there had been talks of either a firmer leadership leading the remnants, or a complete assimilation of their assets and worlds into our Federation, though thus far no comments have been made.

Southern War

It seems this situation has quickly escalated out of control since the last broadcast, with the Antians launching an unprovoked assault on one of our southern frontier planets against our minimal space garrison.

As yet another conflict officially begins, we will deliver to the Antians, Fire and Fury! just like we were delivering the Foot-Hand peoples.

Formicarium Log Cycle 65

The squnails are in complete disarray. They have virtually no leadership remaining. Transferring control of their capital planet was nearly seamless and was accomplished with [almost] no bloodshed. We did have to make an example out of the Emperor though. It's tradition, you see. Weak leadership shall not be tolerated! It is only a matter of time until all their planets join the Great Distributed Colony.

In other news it seems we accidentally attacked a colonized gas giant. What kind of strange creatures can even inhabit such a planet? It was so well camouflaged that we couldn't even see it. Even now knowing its location the radar only receives static. I guess if we want to conquercommunicate with this stealthy species we'll need better scanners.

Maneuvering War

Several weeks into the conflict with the Antians saw relatively little conflict, with thus far only skirmishes dominated by the maneuvering of fleets into a favourable position.

However that is soon to change as days of maneuvering fleets have led to a potential decisive battle in the midst of a forming star. Correspondents from all over the Federation have flocked to the future site of the impending space battle, which has the potential to decide the outcome of the entire conflict, as the two major fleets will be clashing.

At the helm of the North-South combined Fleet is Rear Admiral Chlorina, a veteran of the war against the Foot-Hand peoples. She was responsible for driving those xenos from our frontiers, and making major gains in that sector before being reassigned to the southern theater.

Meanwhile on the future battle site, one of our correspondents is watching from a safe distance, ready to provide live feedback of the battle while watching out for any stray shots that may end his career prematurely.

Formicarium Log Cycle 72

All known squnail planets are now safely under our control. Though it seems a government-in-exile still exists...

A large fleet of gas-sniffers made an aggressive advancement on the remotely controlled robotic planet of Brog. While we were initially outnumbered our fleets managed to outmaneuver and regroup behind enemy lines and wiped out the entire fleet. This is a huge victory on our quest for more sand!

The Herd is now the proud owner of the Blue Ant homeworld. There are lots of ants there, it's overflowing. And they are happy to join our ranks against the Annoyers. Which, by the way, are gathering a massive fleet next to our Unbeatable Pride of Victorius Doom. And they have the temerity to ask us to gather more ships ourselves, as if they think they can defeat the Herd's Pride. Hahahaha.
Admiral, are you sure everything is OK out there? I really see a looooot of annoyer's ships.
Everything is under control, Sir.

The Battle of Krypton's Nebula

Image
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Al Nair's Flight Deck

The Rear Admiral stares out the windows, observing the blue swirls of warp space, as the fleet makes its way to the Nebula, prepared to engage the Antian Fleet that lie in wait. The fleet was returning from an aggressive sortie onto one of the Antian's recently conquered worlds. The shielding system was inoperable due to exposure to a massive Molecular Cloud system. This would leave the fleet as a substantial disadvantage.

It had been months since the battles in the north that saw territorial gains as well as the driving out of the Foot-Hand peoples from Federal Space, but her skills remained sharp as ever, wasting no time on drilling her crew relentlessly prior to the impending battle, in various skills from target ranging and identification, to damage control, to fire control and to weapon usage. It was a tense feeling on the flight deck, as radar ranging reports had indicated the Antian fleet within the Nebula is quite substantial, with probable reports of reinforcements being funneled into the system.

She continues to watch out the windows, thinking what would happen once the battle had ended, unsure of what there is to come. Could the Federation resume the offensive perhaps, she thought to herself. She then thought back to her family, what would life be once the war has ended. But soon her thinking would be interrupted by the words of the Astro-navigator. "Jumping out of Warp.......now!", he announced to the flight deck as the blue swirls of warp space redshifted and soon the nebula appeared in view, along with 11 other Federal ships. In front of them, lay the Antian fleet. Soon, several flashes appeared in the Antian's direction, signalling that more of their ships had indeed jumped out. After the final jumps, the Antian Fleet lay 19 ships strong. The Rear Admiral was outnumbered!

Wasting no time, the Rear Admiral immediately signaled to the fleet, ordering to commence fire at once. At the moment, several dozen laser batteries opened fire at the fleet while at the same time, the Antians began their own fire with a strange weapon, beaming bright orange in color. Soon, the entire space was covered in projectile weapons of all types, some missing their mark, while some landing direct hits on their respective targets. Soon, shots began to riddle Al Nair. The banging and shuttering sounds soon announced themselves, as the ship took increasing amounts of damage, but nothing that the damage control teams can't handle.

In this first round of combat, the Antians would lose two of their ships while the Federation would lose only one.

The Rear Admiral, confident in the progress of the battle, continues to press the attack, determined to win the battle in the nebula. Suddenly, the Radar operator cries out, "Several new contacts on Bearings 350, 004, 029, 035 and 045! 8 Readings, 24 Rea- Oh my god! 40 Readings, 50-64. 64 Readings! I repeat, 64 new readings on Bearings 350, 004, 029, 035 and 045!". The Rear Admiral had fought carrier groups before, but what she was facing was absolutely overwhelming and strange. It seemed that the Antians had a very strong carrier based doctrine, seeming to rely heavily on fighter spacecraft. Realizing that her fleet was not equipped with any proper anti-spacecraft weaponry, the Rear Admiral soon realized the danger she was in.

"Keep those guns focused on their ships! If we can knock out those carriers, we can then pick off their little snub fighters!", the Rear Admiral ordered to the fleet. Laser fire remained fixated on the capital ships until the dozens of fighters closed the gap and began hammering away at the Federal forces. The fighters then split off into their respective squadrons and began focus firing on the ships. One by one, the Federal ships, unable to shrug off the fighters, began exploding from the sustained fires. The other ships soon began to lose discipline, turning their large and unwieldy laser weapons to fire on fast moving fighters in an attempt to defend themselves, with while one shot would be more than enough to out-right destroy a single fighter, it would be considered wasted fire as the firepower would have been better used on the capital ships. But yet the weapon misuse continues, and soon, the Antian fleet almost unbothered by the lack of incoming weapon fire, continues to fire with impunity.

"Keep those guns focused!", she ordered again, to no avail, as the order of his fleet began to rapidly diminish as the fighters torn through the lines, disabling and taking out capitals as they make their runs. Some fighters would indeed be shot down, but this would all be in vain, as the ships, left right and center, began to fall victim to the combined fires of both the fighters and the capital ships.

At this point in the battle, it would be far too late to be able to disengage without damage, so the Federal fleet remained in the fold, taking massive amounts of losses. While being able to take out two more Antian ships, and crippling several others, the outcome of the battle was clear. "All crew abandon ship!", the Rear Admiral cried out, "Abandon ship!". The flight deck crew hesitated, before reluctantly making their way to the escape pods. The XO, began making his way before stopping briefly, "Chlorina, what about you? You have to come with us!", he shouted. "No, this is my responsibility and i will henceforth fight this out. Get off this ship at once and live to fight another day!". The XO, unmoved by her statement, made it clear he was staying to fight alongside her, and he was not alone on this, the rest of the flight deck crew elected to stay to fight with her instead of continuing to the escape pods. "You all will be made heroes of the Federation", the Rear Admiral stated.

Once most of her crew were off the ship, the Rear Admiral began hurrying a bunch of orders. "Ship Thrust Maximum! Fire Control, Fire all available weapons on that ship! Helmsman, maneuver to dodge incoming fire! We will not let them take this ship without a fight!". One by one, she ordered the weapons to fire on different ships, disabling them and leaving them dead in space. It almost seemed like her ship was a one man strong navy, when a stray shot pierced and detonated in the reactor room. With the integrity of the ship now compromised, she and her crew still did not give up. Using the remaining power being generated, she plotted the ship on a collision course with one of the ships. With an incoming shot directed towards the bridge, the impending coup de grace, the entire crew erupted all at once, "FOR THE FEDERATION WE STAND STRONG AND UNITED AGAINST ANY AND ALL THREATS!", on all radio frequencies. "WE SERVE TO PROTECT THE LIVES AND WELLBEINGS OF THE FEDERATIO-". At the moment the energy shot pierced the bridge and immediately detonated, instantly killing the entire bridge crew, and along with it, Rear Admiral Chlorina. The Al Nair then exploded violently as her reactors failed and melted down.

With the destruction of the Flag ship of the North-South Combined Fleet, the Al Nair, the Battle of Krypton's Nebula had ended in a decisive victory for the Antians, while the power of the Federal fleet was shattered in the Nebula, with the annihilation of the North-South Combined Fleet, leading to the deaths of thousands of experienced crew as well as top level commanding staff of the Starfleet Command, including the famed Rear Admiral Chlorina, Veteran of the war to the North.

An Empire in mourning

Following last week's devastating defeat against the Antian Empire in which not only a fleet was utterly destroyed, but had led to the death of one of the Heroes of the Federation, Rear Admiral Chlorina, the Enlightened Leader himself has declared three days of mourning for the once mighty tactician.

In an act of solidarity, citizens across the Federation took to the streets once more in mourning for the late Rear Admiral.

The Federation will live on, but we will never forget Chlorina and her unpayable service to the people and the Federation.

The End of an Empire

Image

Over the Radiated World of Tarak Beta I, the final battle of the Aquatic Empire would take place, a Joint Aquatic-Gaseous Fleet facing off against the Antians, a battle which would decide the fate of the declining empire. Onboard the lone Aquatic ship laid the last hope of any restoration, along with some elements of the government-in-exile.

The resulting Battle of Tarak would ultimately result in a defeat for the Federation and the final coup de grace to the once expansive Aquatic Empire as their lone ship was lost with all hands, although the battle was not without heavy losses on the Antian fleet, which would lose most of their combat ships within the system.

With the loss of our only ally to the hands of the ants, the Federation will have to stand strong alone against the other space faring civilizations, in this tense chapter of Federal history.
