How about a galactic core? Our own Milky Way has large black hole in the center - radiation and matter accumulation is tremendous there. That would be region where starship navigation would be almost or completely impossible.

it's proven that every galaxy has a super-massive black hole in it's center. they are needed in the galaxy creation process.
i would like to see this in fo too :). travelling should be slowed down extremely in this area.

I concur for the effect on gameplay, would be neat.
Also, this could alleviate some clutter in center of map.

it makes no sense to me. why someone would pick a 100 stars throughout a whole galaxy, consisting of billions of stars?
in our galaxy there are 200 billion stars. it has a diameter of 90000 light years.
100 known stars actually are within 20 light years.

Maybe because 200 billion is a little intesive on the old computer, and not very fun to play at all
I think 100 to 300 stars/systems is plenty in gameplay terms, if you wanted more you'd have to have a 3d galactic model and for playing with that would simply be horrible to work with, you'd lose your systems!

we have had this topic so many times... we are not going for realism, you know? this is a space opera and should be fun to play.

200 Billion stars
Yikes! I hope you're not the micromanagement type! You would need many, many lifetimes just to complete one turn.

Yep, we'd never have to see or hear from them again. I doubt they could even finish one turn in a lifetime

FO "realism mod" Error - you do not have the required 10Gb of physical memory installed.

There are three kinds of people in this world - those who can count, and those who can't.
