Talk about strategy games like MoO series, Civilization, Europa Universalis, etc.

SilverTree Project RPG

#1 Post by eleazar »

Well this is a little different from the normal space-battle fare,
but as of last night v0.1 of SilverTree has been released.

It's an idea that's be in the works for quite a while, but in the last month or so, development has gotten serious. If all goes well, this will be my primary game project. But i still should be around FO for a while. But probably not as much as i have been.

Looks quite good already. Is this true 3D terrain?

Anyway, good luck with this.

What role-playing system it uses? If I were to develop a CRPG, I'd port Dungeons&Dragons role-playing system. Although it's not suitable for CRPGs, porting it is better than developing the whole thing(especially spells) from scratch.

I don't believe the d20 system is compatible with the GPL.

There are several features we want to include that aren't part of the D&D system.
But besides that i don't really like the D&D system, especially the spell list (and we may not even have magic, anyway).

In general we'd rather make something original than derivative, though it will clearly be part of the RPG genera.

What role-playing system you will use? Role-playing system is very important for CRPGs and requires careful design. It shouldn't be an afterthought.

By "system" you mean "rule set"? We're making a custom system to fit the game-play we want, just like we (a different "we") are doing here for FreeOrion, except Silver Tree is at a much earlier, less organized stage of development.

I couldn't determine what game-play you want by examining the site and the Google Groups page.
I recommend you to document your rule set.

We need do document about everything. :P It's a known problem, but so far been mostly neglected in favor of actually getting it working.
