Re: galaxy map information modes/overlays
The underlying question behind all this is if you really always know the type of star (not its planets) before exploring its planetary system (I know, it's simple telescope and the light of stars travels the old-fashioned way towards Earth or any other planet and stars live long enough to be seen fr...

Re: Terrain worlds
Earth is to be considered as class M or Terrain world, at least in Star Trek terms (don't know how "general" and real-life related those definitions are): [CLASS_M_INFO] Always located in the ecological region of a star where they are provided enough warmth and energy to develop and sustai...

Re: galaxy map information modes/overlays
the 3 question marks look a bit overboarded on-screen (if they are to appear there for unexplored systems). I'd go for just one question mark directly put over the star and made translucent/transparent. Otherwise nice effects and the drop shadow probably looks better when softened but I'm definitely...

Re: BOTF 2, similar project
Once forums are reinstated (might take another few weeks) the mysql error will be gone as well as the botfii.armadafleetcommand.com site and moved to http://www.star-trek-games.com as far as I know, so that would be the site to link with banners or something alike..

Re: Ogre Tech Demo
right! we have our own little 3D combat project going on at botf2 (for half a year now), but it's using Irrlicht and art-wise not as crispy as this one when it comes to planets and galaxy background :): http://www.botf2.com/bote/Shared%20Documents/In-game%20screens/botf23dcombatpreviewirrlichtthumb....

Re: BOTF 2, similar project
Right, sorry. It's just that they are down for a while and still no one knows when the admin finds time to set them up again. @Mike: Talked to SirP and he's using WPF for some other software he's writing. Right now, it's too much work for him to completely rewrite the client and the more knowledge h...

Re: BOTF 2, similar project
great, thx! I talked to him and he is finding WPF really cool. One thing we didn't find was if WPFG still needs .NET 3.5 Framework installed on client machines to run. From your knowledge of WPF, do you think that this project is already advanced enough to start implementing it or should one wait fo...

Re: BOTF 2, similar project
Alright, let's hope for the best for the forums. Now that's a good find with the WPFg project there! SirP is right now rewriting all UI code classes from regular GDI to GDI+ (which is equal to changing more than a couple of thousand lines of code) so if that thing turns out to be even better by maki...

Re: BOTF 2, similar project
Hi Mike ;). Didn't think about the two architectures being incompatible source-wise so sorry about the use-of-code part. I just recalled some staff room thread back then on our old boards, but only faintly :). It's quite taking some time with Nemitor setting up the new forums, doesn't it? I really b...

Re: BOTF 2, similar project
@Geoff: thanks for linking to the svn page. I think with that and some tutorials on the web we should at least be able to understand what tzlaine did before he gets back and decides upon us being able to use parts of the side panel code. @pd: I see. There's definitely time now for Mike to add a cred...

Re: BOTF 2, similar project
I was not aware that Mike forgot about mentioning you on codeplex and in-game (he certainly mentioned you on our old botf2 forums, that's why I never checked). Probably it just slipped under the desk during some revision indeliberately. He's by far not the stealing type of guy ;). I'm sure this solv...

Re: BOTF 2, similar project
That is sure the case with Supremacy, since it's fully open-source ( http://www.codeplex.com/Supremacy ) and has the same licenses as your project. I can only recall what Mike said 2 years ago. Maybe he meant that some of your programmers helped him implementing and understanding the parts in questi...

Re: BOTF 2, similar project
There are some major updates with regards to project(s) mentioned here in this thread. One of them (the more advanced one) named Birth of the Empires or BotE has undergone a complete content overhaul resulting in removing each and every bit of Star Trek content and replacing it with a new self-made ...
