Hrm, no activity in this thread for ages. Oh well, time to resurrect it. :) <ahem> NEW FILE!!! Yay woohoo, El Mongoose walks the earth again. --- Building The Dream v2r --- This is my old Ship Design track. Reduced tempo, added reverb (hence the 'r' designation I'm going to start using from now on),...

Like the Full Version one a lot. Reminds me of Gradius a bit. Would probably be a combat track, definitely think we can use it. :) And cheers for all the old-school synths in here, take this all you people who hate MIDI-sounding stuff lol. I am kinda bleh on the Mixdown A version to be honest, thoug...

Besides, whats the point of us Audio-Forum types? If a player can just remove all the soundfiles and make their own why write any music at all? For a default? Yes. A default that most users will hopefully, ideally, and presumably wind up choosing to use, because they like it well enough. In general...

as much as I do think it should be customizable, I also think there should be some staple tracks - a main theme, ending, combat etc... To give the game an identity. Although I'm not sure about this, but I don't think you can fully customize the graphic files. So something along those guide lines. i...

There *will* be "more than one piece of music for each game element", I can just about promise you that. The great question has always been, which elements (if any) get a racial track or short list of tracks, and which (if any) instead get a larger non-racial pool of tracks. This isn't the...

'med1' STRONGLY reminds me of MOO2 Alkari diplomacy. Anyone else think so? Just curious. :) Not that that's a bad thing, I actually like it a lot. Could stand to be a little longer slash less repetative is all. Menu2 is great, reminds me of Blade Runner (I guess you chose that name for a reason hehe...

If you mean the player decides what list to use, yeah, but having the game decide whether you're "winning" or not at any given moment is probably a bad idea for a simulation this complex. Though I suppose you could work out some rules, like "mood only changes between turns not during ...

So it is. :) Here's the current (version 2.5) list of Creative Commons options. They are less numerous and better named than I remember the previous set (2.0?) being, but I could be wrong. http://creativecommons.org/license/meet-the-licenses I've talked Tyreth into tentatively letting me select the ...

I mean a real *sound*, opposed to blips and bleeps of a synthetic machine. Blips and bleeps are awesome. A good chunk of my favorite music ever is from old NES and SNES games (and at least one modern one, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance). I love the way that stuff sounds. Speaking of which, do you or...

A lot of the patches on my hardware *are* sample-based. Not sure about the ones involved here specifically. I'm not necessarily trying to simulate real instruments... I'm trying to make the end result sound good. I'd actually just as soon avoid real instruments when possible cuz I hold a grudge agai...

Starlight Requiem v2 -- Major changes. First, the full measure rests have all been removed or filled in. They were really double-time full rests before, aka half measure rests, which is probably why it felt awkward. I still liked it that way musically but, after much soul searching, ultimately had t...

I always thought of an Ocean planet as one that is 95-100% covered in water, such that only aquatic races would live there happily, but others could at the high cost of making floating cities, domes on the ocean floor, etc.

Arboreal sounds cooler than Forest, and is a straight synonym. It may be more obscure but it is just as simple and has the same meaning. The only drawback imo is it's three syllables long instead of two, which means it takes longer to say out loud, which is bad for a game where it's a common term. S...

I like it.

@Impaler - Too complicated. And unnecessary. Just do any "experimentings" in the important phase before you hit Soft End. Leave tweaking (and designing and reviewing) for afterward.

I feel compelled to point out, as you can see here:
http://www.camelotherald.com/spells/

That Verdant and Arboreal are two of the three Animist class spec lines in DAoC. The third being Creeping.

...

That being said, Terran and Arboreal get my vote.
