...Henry Ford DID come up with the idea for the Assembly Line and made cars available for the general public for the first time. The assembly line wasn’t so much an invention (like the car) but it was a way to make automobiles faster, cheaper, and on a much larger scale. To me, this is the heart of...

Why? i told you... because it's more organized. How is lines connecting to other lines at seemingly random places "more organized"? (You didn't explain how / why they are connected where they are...) Or, if you mean that it just looks nicer / opener / less complicated, that's more a featu...

Should something like Nanomachines, Robotic workers, automated factories, and the like be in this category?? "Construction" is supposedly for stuff that allows you to grow other meters faster. I think this can be interpreted as having a higher capacity to build new industry, farms, labs o...

it's better to have prerequisite links connect directly to the techs they allow / are allowed by, rather than joining another prerequisite link at some distance behind the tech being allowed. Eg. connect the link from the leftmost R1 to R2 directly... not to the link connecting R2 to the middle A. ...

hmm, imo those + and - confuse people, at least me ;-) How so? If it's the meaning of blue vs. cyan, that can be represented another way... That thing in the middle is the trunk and dragging the mouse rotates around and moves the view up and down the trunk. All the nodes are in some specific 3D spa...

Most of the above is very capitalism-centric. Do we want to have techs for various economic systems [...] I'm not sure what the devs have in mind here. If there are various forms of government, then obviously each of these will affect your empire in different ways. Whether certain govs allow or dis...

Actually its also only a question of geometry. A larger body has a smaller surface compared to its volume. So in a large empire there will be much less border areas, and much more "safe" areas" thus decreasing the risks of invasion. One thing we could do to reduce this is to make the...

what about this one: [image] it's only one category atm, i'll add more tomorrow, together with some more complex and crossing realtions. IMO it's better to have prerequisite links connect directly to the techs they allow / are allowed by, rather than joining another prerequisite link at some distan...

Is this thread intended to generate "isolated" tech names and associated effects, or the general progression / structure of the economics tech tree (if such a concept exists distinct from other categories' trees)? Also, could we get some sense of what is the desired "style" of te...

I too have been wondering what is the intended scope of the various categories... this one in particular. I assume Aq had a particular idea in mind when deciding the names, however it's not immediately clear to me what the plan was from the one-word names. IMO it'd be helpful if Bastian-Bux ammended...

IMO, tech names should be somewhat "specific" and give a good sense of what is being researched. So rather than "exotic alloys" or "advanced engineering" that are rather vague, we'd have more descriptive / evocative names like: Theories: Carbon Nanofibres Monofilment Ex...

Well geoff, I find it much more plausible, technically speaking, that a phenomenon that is currently theorized but which we have almost no practical information about would exist then some imaginary particle. Star trek is more fiction then sci-fi, and using an imaginary particle immediately produce...

hence I resuggest tabs for each category how would you go about displaying connections between different categories then? I'm now partial to BreadMan's mockup with all techs on one page: no tabs. However, were there tabs, the inter-category prerequisites (and optionally unlocked techs in other cate...
