Re: General feeling after two games

4.10.2 doesn't stop existing just because 5.x comes out. All it really needs to be complete in itself is a fix for the AI. Doesn't even need to be 1 of the devs, the code is open source. And AI code does not need to be compiled, so everybody could just start hacking away locally. I also guess we co...

And that's my impression. They're fine for "this game is cool, check it out", but pretty worthless as tutorials.

I was referring to the changes planned for 0.5.0, with the Influence and Policy features.

Re: Has anybody played the game lately?

It might be, but that would be quite the endeavor for a new player to commit to. Chances are, even if started, it wouldn't go anywhere. In addition there's the problem I mentioned before of big changes in works. I don't know what the current target date for a stable release with the new stuff is, bu...

Re: Has anybody played the game lately?

This is a game that is in development and has changed. A guide from 2014 is far too old. I don't think the linked one from 2016 (although I didn't go through the whole thread) is completely useful because of the change to exobots. The main thing is that the game varies considerably based on setup. I...

Re: Experimentor Strategy

Generally it's much easier to take care of the situation before spawning. As I've posted before, occasionally there's a backdoor method. Sometimes there's another planet in the Experimentor's system that can be colonized. So you build a colony ship for a compatible species, research Starlane Bore, a...

Re: What a Dyson Tree!

Disappointingly, a few turns later when I checked it the structure was down to something small.

What a Dyson Tree!

You can play for years and still come across things you haven't seen before. I had a Dyson Tree on Turn 1, so I looked at the structure to see if it was worth getting the Frigate's weapons up early to take it out. It took me a few seconds to understand that its structure was 66k. Yikes.

It wasn't mentioned in the original response, but Psionic Snowflakes only affect ships with organic crews. So you can send ships with other crew types against them without fearing of being captured.

Re: General feeling after two games

I hesitate to chime in very much because I haven't tried any of this stuff past the 04.10 stable release, but that's because it sounds like a micro-mangement horror to me. I'm probably wrong but I'd have been more onboard if you'd started with a few small steps towards the goal and implemented those...

Re: Can't invade enemy planets

There was a bug in 4.10 stable where planets with base weapons and shields (most natives) you'd knock down shields and move in troops, then the shields would regen 1. You'd have to go through another combat round before you could invade. I'd think that would have been fixed by 4.10.2 though. Grab a ...

At least through 4.10 they repair just like ships. Either drydocks or repair tech will return their structure towards maximum.

Re: Is Space Cloud Domesticatable?

As far as I know, the only way to get domesticated monsters is by capturing a nest and spawning new ones. There's no way to tame "wild" ones.

Re: Been a long time, what's the status of work on this project?

At this time, they are working on a major change to the game. That's still very much a work in progress. I agree that you should grab the stable release to get refamiliarized with it.
