Re: Developer (and artist? and sound?) recruiting
Since tzlaine continues to be busy, and as a result of this not much is happening in the Ogre based combat system, it might be worth a shot to post an update to FreeOrion`s old recruitment post on Ogre Forums. So some time ago I asked one of the Ogre moderators about their policy towards updating re...

Re: Natives
Since this thread is in Brainstorming here is a brainstorming kind of a thought: If all of the major species aren`t used in a particular game, could it be possible to have a reduced, but still recognisable, version of one of those unused species to appear as a native species, or would something like...

Re: Ruins, Relics and Derelicts oh my!
I was wondering.....Could there be a possibility of ancient Ruins on planets that could tell us more about the species that inhabited that planet, or maybe when you collinize you could discover hidden Relics that unlock unique technologies giving the player a minor advantage...maybe even floating s...

Re: Making Space Monsters Cooler
Perhaps some monsters would be tagged as "one-of-a-kind", once they were placed, they would be removed from the list-- though there would be no guarantee that they will be placed. So could this mean that not every possible space monster would be in every game? If so, this sounds like a go...

Re: v0.3.16 Alpha Windows Installer
(although without a Linux build this time, unfortunately). Since the installer in question is already released, I can probably use this thread to ask a simple question about the quote above. As there is no statically-linked Linux version this time, is there any point in announcing this release on L...

Re: v0.3.16 Black Screen then Closes - Win7
After years (literally) of this issue, I've recently added a check when loading the config.xml file to reject it if it's version is different from the current executable, so hopefully this won't happen anymore starting with v0.3.17. So the old config.xml is now automatically replaced with a new one...

Re: Stockpiles
Sure, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. It simply make high producing resource worlds more strategically important to defend, or capture. It probably wouldn`t be a bad thing as long as the economy system stays flexible enough, so that you can make the possibly needed focus setting changes dur...

Re: Stockpiles
IMO, the real problem is the perceived need to switch between food or minerals or industry to grow and produce stuff in the short term. This is possible and beneficial (and thus necessary) due to stockpiles. Without them, the player will be (even more) forced to pick one focus and stick with it, as...

Re: 0.3 graphics summary / sidepanel revision
The fleets window seems a more logical place to me... If desired, it could be modified to show multiple empires' fleets, possibly with a mode of rendering showing the much-reduced information (no name, no activity text, much smaller icon) as in the mockup. I also agree that the fleets window seems ...

Is this the designer who designed the first two MOO games?
I just recently found this youtube video that at least claims to be an interview with Simtex`s legendary game designer Steve Barcia: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5DD0zPOB-A …but since I have never seen a picture of Steve Barcia I can`t really be sure that the man in the video is really him. Anywa...

Re: After recent changes should the design documents be updated?
You should probably be modifying a new version of the design documents for v0.4 rather than editing the v0.3 document. Much of the v0.3 stuff could be prepended to the v0.4 design pad to flush it out into a full v0.4 design document. And does "a new version of the design documents for v0.4&quo...

Re: After recent changes should the design documents be updated?
Someone else taking on the task would be helpful. Even if they're not completely aware of all the changes that have been discussed, they can make known changes. Well I can try to make some changes in the near future, but can`t guarantee that they will be good enough to warrant a permanent place in ...

Re: After recent changes should the design documents be updated?
Geoff is basically running the whole show on his own at this point. Do you volunteer to do the changes yourself? Well like you said as Geoff is basically running the whole show and is the author of most, if not all, of those changes it might be best if it would also be he who would make the documen...

After recent changes should the design documents be updated?
There have been a lot of changes recently especially with the meter system and with the focus settings, but the design documents still talk about secondary foci and construction meter`s relationship with growth. And if the design documents are supposed to be “the game design of FreeOrion” this seems...

Re: Trying to understand why there is no successor to Moo2/3 yet
- Why does it take so long for a great project like Free orion to get finished? (or reach playable status) Probably because no one is getting paid to do this and so everyone is working on their free time. Also projects like this are quite large with many different parts to consider, so they take a ...
