Re: ship repair 0.4.5

I kind of hate to bring it up, as the feature is so useful, but for balance reasons the drydock repair is a big free lunch. You can have 20 ships worn to the nub and get them repaired in one turn with no hit to production. So it's really important to emphasize not losing ships because it takes time ...

Re: ship repair 0.4.5

I definitely learned that having worlds with drydocks close to the front lines is very important. It allows you to send damaged ships back in during respites for a quick repair and they really don't cost that much to build.

Re: winning strategies and tips

I guess it kind of depends on how things go. Last night, I started a game with spiral, fairly low density, 5 AIs with "typical" aggression. The "north" part of my territory was very sparse, but on independent world I conquered quickly. There was a significant dead zone beyond that, which I quit expl...

Re: Security warnings after downloading 0.4.5

I will revisit it this weekend. The server thing makes sense, and I can see how it could be interpreted by the firewall as an attempt to allow outside access. In fact, you can do that can't you for multi-player games? Not that I would, the main reason I was interested in FO was as an off and on soli...

Pretty sure, but I can never guarantee.

Re: Security warnings after downloading 0.4.5

I uninstalled the new version but still got warnings when running the older one. I ended up doing a system restore to before the install, removing 0.4.4, then reinstalling it. Things are back to no warnings. I will think about what to do with the newer one. I don't like ignoring my security programs...

Re: Security warnings after downloading 0.4.5

I dug into the logs a bit. The IP address was 0.0.0.0 port 123456, so safe I guess. I just wonder why I had no problem for all this time, then two separate security programs (ThreatFire and Comodo) get hinky about the new build.

Security warnings after downloading 0.4.5

Based on advice in another thread, I got the latest test version to try. When I started a game, my firewall said FreeOrionCA.exe was trying to access the internet. No reason for that, so I had it block the access. The game never did load. I went back to the original 0.4.4 that I had been running, bu...

Sure. Now that I'm home, I made a screencap. You're right, the scout is out at the end of his supply line.

Re: AI didn't move, bug or feature?

Just checking a couple things. When you say "normal" AI do you mean "Typical" as the setting? You're also playing with the 0.4.4 stable release? I believe those are both correct. I'm not at the machine where it is installed. If both those are true, then I suspect what's happened is the AI couldn't ...

AI didn't move, bug or feature?

I'm playing v0.4.4 (Windows). I had a spiral configuration, normal AI aggression, with four AIs. I worked down one of the arms. At the very end, I found the homeworld for one of the AIs. It had moved a scout out a few jumps to a deep space spot, but nothing after that. At the system, there was a con...
