Re: 0.4 Ship Parts
agreed. The original looks more "futuristic" to me so plastic or future-style armour could be represented by that. I'm not sure if it should be used for later or earlier techs for that matter..

Re: Little misunderstandings and the benefit of real-life exampl
I have no interest in proving myself and please don't assume everyone wants that. I'm interested in this piece of software the same way I am with the other game I'm making forum moderator for (I have my share of experience and knowledge about those kinds of realism debates as you might have noticed ...

Re: An option for shaders
seconded. For example, I can't play the freeware tank battle game Zero Ballistics because they require shader 2.0 and my old radeon 9200 card only serves shader 1.4...

Re: Little misunderstandings and the benefit of real-life exampl
it's realism when we have round planets in-game, just like robbie said, in a pure fictional universe, even the slightest derivation of pi would make all circles look like weird geometric objects, so we are based on realism for the most part . Those examples you mentioned are fiction based on real-li...

Re: Aquisition of Language and Language delays.
The latter is in agreement to my diplomatic "acceptance" idea from the design thread . Basically, language or understanding a race grows naturally when sending a team of language experts to the alien race in order to learn and exchange their grammar and vocabulary or other ways of speaking and scien...

Re: 0.4 Ship Parts
hm, would those pics look better when having white or grey to display bigger debris parts (maybe with less smoothing than I used)? At least that weapon should have some more (devastating and destroying) effect than merely scratching the enemy's ship hull surface shouldn't it?

Re: 0.4 Ship Parts
yeah, that might work. But these "water drops" on the lower left of the image at the beam's origin look a bit strange.

Re: Diplomacy Preliminary
3) This is may be a bit controversial. We may want to include some sort of alignment system, a la HOI, so that two arbitrary empires cannot just team up with/against each other. HOI also does something similar, but their dimensions are totally different from the ones in my post below (something lik...

Re: Little misunderstandings and the benefit of real-life exampl
I know ;). But if it even was 2 hours for the graphic team. Changing colors of a given bitmap is a thing of 2-3 seconds, even nil seconds if you got a color changing filter implemented in your graphic loading class programming-wise, which btw. has nice effects on user-customizability of UI skins and...

Re: All my craziest ideas? Really?
I'd make that fog of war invisible though and its "strength"/effect dependant on observatory buildings and near-by ships equipped with good scanners, i.e. the scan strength in that system.

Re: All my craziest ideas? Really?
you should be able to decide if a gift gets you +1 diplomatic bonus. Not all technological or other gifts are of equal worth so a rather uninteresting tech gift should just possibly mean no significant increase in diplomatic relationship hence penalties should not follow. In other words, make an acc...

Re: Little misunderstandings and the benefit of real-life exampl
that linked thread ain't helping here. The KISS concept isn't violated either since a clever child probably has problems understanding why there aren't any green stars, not why there are some now. Of course it's the dev's choice what to do but I was never a stickler at being realistic, it's just tha...

Re: Little misunderstandings and the benefit of real-life exampl
right. Two funny things that always/commonly occur in realism implementation debates are for once that realism counter arguments are most likely gladly accepted ;) and second realism already led to the current way a feature is implemented. Let's look at this screenie: http://www.optisch-edel.de/fo/o...

Little misunderstandings and the benefit of real-life exampl
A little quote out of a recent thread "realism must always come after gameplay and simulation purposes when it takes too much effort to implement"-principle every game coder knows about. Btw. me too. So there's no need to lecture me here. He should have known that by reading what little I wrote so f...
