Re: Aren't shields a bit overly expensive?

Whether intended or not, it's definitely desirable. If every ship was equipped with shields, there would be almost no point in having them at all - they would just be another research target instead of something tactically and strategically interesting. I think that I've got a way to show that, in ...

Aren't shields a bit overly expensive?

Hi there, I want to discuss something about shields. I'm a fanatic of doing some maths and spend lot of time designing ships. In the process, I think that I've got a way to show that, in certain circumstances, shields are totally unworth and its PP could be better invested in buying an extra-ship. I...

Destruction of Ships with Troop Pods -- Necessary?

Hi there, as for now, whenever you invade a Planet with a Troop Ship, the ship itself is destroyed in the process. I wonder: why? Wouldn't it be more logical and "realistic" that those Troops "jump" over the planet, so you can safely build ships with weapons + troops + etc... instead of forcing you ...

How does the combat system work?

Hi there, I've been having several battles and I just reckon how the system works and if it is fare. There have been times where I had a fight with almost equivalent forces, yet the enemy unleashes all their attacks on my fleet and everyone on my fleet dies before they have time to retaliate. Anyone...

UML/Diagrams/Anything which explains architecture?

Hi there,

I'm taking an overall look at freeorion's code. I'm just wondering if there exists any UML/class diagrams/diagram/documentation about the game architecture and design. For sure it would help me and haste my understanding of the application.

Thank you

Re: Trading?

About trading Some time ago I played freeciv and, AFAIK, similar resources are managed. You can set up percentages on industry, research, trading and, given certain conditions as the empire grows, you have to spend several resources to keep people happy. Thinking a bit and after playing a bit freeor...

KDE? Do you mean KDevelop? KDE is a desktop environment :P

Later i'll try those eclipse suggestions. I already had CDT installed yet I never used cmake to compile.

Thanks for the answers :D

Which optimum IDE could I use to develop freeorion?

Hi there, As I could see on the source, there are MSVC and XCode file projects to develop using those applications. However, I'm a bit reluctant on developing over Microsoft (although I work with Visual Studio) and I don't have a Mac to develop with XCode. As for now, when developing C++ application...

Re: What is infrastruture? What is its use?

Ok dilvish, understood. Thank you for clarifying those concepts :D

@adrian_broher yeah I could meet those frameworks while compiling :D. I've loaded the full project on eclipse to read and understand the code and architecture.

Re: [SOLVED] Weird graphics on freeorion with ATI card

You can limit the FPS in the video options tab. It doesn't actually work correctly to produce the requested FPS, but setting a limit should reduce CPU use doing unnecessary rendering. Limit was already enabled, though I'm already experiencing 20 FPS with ATI opensource drivers(though corrupted grap...

Re: Weird graphics on freeorion with ATI card

Also my ATI card use legacy drivers on ubuntu as it is a Radeon HD 4350 (I think those are not updated anymore, they are ubuntu-amd-catalyst-install and fglrx-amdcccle-legacy packages, which they are installed on my system) If you're using the legacy fglrx driver I would suggest to move to the open...

Re: Weird graphics on freeorion with ATI card

As an ATI card owner I'm not aware of that issue. Do you use fglrx or the open source ati driver? I'm using fglrx (extract from /etc/X11/xorg.conf) Section "Device" Identifier "aticonfig-Device[0]-0" Driver "fglrx" BusID "PCI:1:0:0" EndSection Also my ATI card use legacy drivers on ubuntu as it is ...

[SOLVED] Weird graphics on freeorion with ATI card

Hi there, I have freeorion installed on 2 PCs, laptop and desktop. On laptop (with Intel card) it works and shows fine. On the desktop, with an ATI card, mouse and fleet icons are shown weirdly. I attach screenshots of the issue. Is there any known issue regarding freeorion and ATI cards? greetings,...

Re: Anyone able to compile on latest Ubuntu (13.X)?

Ok guys, I formatted my Ubuntu and now I have: 1- libboost 1.53 recognized by cmake 2- libogre1.8.0-dev. I had to ignore its dependencies in order to install, yet it seems it works. 3- everything else I'm compiling without absolutely modifying any header nor doing Symlinks to Plugins (keeping symlin...
