Re: Revisiting Stealth & Detection

The most important question in this entire matter hasn't been asked. What do people want? Should a fleet always be detected when it moves towards another player? Or should it be possible to travel deep within the enemy's territory without being detected? Why is that the most important question? Obv...

Re: Revisiting Stealth & Detection

Right, I kinda misread your original post, I assumed it was on the tactical level.

I'm cooking something up myself, but I'm really freaking tired from work, so I'll probably post it tomorrow.

Re: Revisiting Stealth & Detection

Nice idea, I'd include a tech or building that can detect incoming objects from a starlane. It would force some strategic placing of these buildings on your borders. You wouldn't know what number or types of ships are inbound, but rather a alert that something just dropped out of FTL. A enemy fleet ...

Re: Bringing balance to the factions

I know that there's barely any race specific stuff implemented right now, that part of the game is further down the roadmap. It wouldn't hurt to discuss a balancing system to see what other people come up with. The feats I mentioned above are just examples, you could use anything in there. For insta...

Bringing balance to the factions

FreeOrion already has a number of species with pros and cons attributed to them. This would cause some balance issues when you pit them against each other. So I propose that all species are subjected to predefined construction rules instead of hardwiring and tweaking them along the road. My idea is ...

What's been going on with FreeOrion?

Hi, I haven't been on this board for quite a bit because I assumed that the project had died a while back. The more flexible roadmap is probably a good idea since the game and some mechanics will change over time. Anyway, do you guys still have a project leader? Who decides what should and shouldn't...

So, has there been any resolution to this thread about what the story will be?

Re: What is your favourite alien species and WHY?

I've always liked the Shadows from Babylon 5. I really like the designs and capabilities of their ships.

Well, it should be pretty clear that this guy has ulterior motives.

You don't just create a site for someone else for the sake of being nice.

Re: Alternate Backstory (with an eye toward Gameplay)

We could place precursors in the center of the galaxy and have all the player races near the edge. We could also have them ignore the "lesser races" for a certain number of turns. I agree that the player should have the option to play without any Precursor incursions. ...But not by becomin...

Re: Galactic Doomsday Scenario

It would also spice up the scenario of some species were actually immune to the seeders or actually had technology to effectively clean them up on a planetary scale. Such a species would be in a pretty powerfull position and could demand pretty much anything to provide help (think technology, trade ...

Re: Alternate Backstory (with an eye toward Gameplay)

Well, most ideas in this thread are a bit hit and miss, but I'd like to add something to the Precursor list. Identity of the Precursors The Precursors are not a unified group. They are simply a diverse collection of extremely old and powerful species/civilizations. They are powerful enough that surv...

Re: Alternate Backstory (with an eye toward Gameplay)

I've been rethinking a alternate backstory quite a bit, I think that I have a plausible backstory that will allow for all species to attain TFL at the same time. Also, we should probably have a Orion system or atleast a planet named Orion at the center of the galaxy. Now here's my idea. Hundreds of ...
