And yes, making it less all-or-nothing is something I think everybody agrees would be an improvement, but there is no consensus on how to do that exactly.

That armada was lost the moment you decided (got baited?) to [counter]attack with it, whether you saw it or not is another story. Something something battle of wits. Those ships resupplying over your blocked system wouldn't have prevented it, just prolong the suffering for a couple turns more while...

I know for sure that around half the players in this game are frantically sharing or asking for info in private, and trying to manipulate the others to pitch them against the others. So regardless of what was "decided" mid-game, be aware that no one is respecting that "decision"...
