Re: Polish translation

Last time I checked the translation file was already included in the official game release, even though it's not finished yet + I have a hard time to find much time to tinker with it recently, so any help is really appreciated.

Re: Attention Polish Speakers: we need a good Polish font

I'm not that keen on fonts, but I use DejaVu Sans, Serif and Mono every day in my Linux system and these fonts support all Polish characters without any problems (at least as long as I use the "PL_pl.UTF8" locale). Plus I've been using them for a good couple of years now and I never had an...

Re: the Ur-Quan Masters

I remember trying this game a long while ago and I was struck down by the interface - I didn't have any idea what or how to do anything. Maybe a manual would help, but I didn't stumble upon one.

I'd really like to play this, cause I saw many really good opinions about this game.

Re: How to get started with programming, graphics, audio in gene

How about using some music from Jamendo? There should be some cool instrumental tracks out there, and as long as there is credit given to the musicians the project can use that music for free.

Re: How to get started with programming, graphics, audio in

Hell, there are lots of ways to help a OS project... E.g. I'm not so good at programming (though I have some skills), so I take on a translation and try to coordinate it with other ppl who want to do the same, 'cause I'm good at it. Nobody can become a specialist overnight, so I really don't think t...

Re: How expensive would it to buy old sourcecode of classics

I've been working for the past year in a job (a computer hardware store), where I had everyday contact with the so called "typical computer user". From this experience I learned that people as a general mass cannot be trusted to make any kind of choice. About 95% of those typical users cou...

Re: How expensive would it to buy old sourcecode of classics?

I don't think that would be a good idea at all. Sure the classics are great to play even after all these years... Now think what would happen to ppl's interesty in FreeOrion if they could play MoO2 on Linux with properly rewritten tcp/ip support? (for those that don't know - there is still a fairly ...

Re: Polish translation

I think I'll put the translated string on the wiki so the couple of us that are interested in this translation can work on it easily, cause the way that it's (the pl stringlist) maintained now isn't working out too good.

Re: Polish translation

@tempsanity: I didn't have much time lately to work on the translation, so if you want to you can pick up where I finished (there's a link a couple of posts back), maybe if we both work on the file we can finish this :-). I'll ctx you directly.

Re: Font support for Central European languages...

two things... the currently used font (DejaVu_etcetera) has support for eastern european languages and many many more; the keyboard input could be kept in ASCII (would help a lot with filenames etc), but I think it's safe to give utf support for names and ingame chat

Re: Font support for Central European languages...

I'm not using any IDE ;-P. I usually write in Kate (a Linux text editor, which has a really nice syntax highlighting and easy access to the terminal ;-) ) which is enough for my usual programming needs ;-). (On the other hand I'm not writing any large programs. ;-) ) Anyway thx, I'll look into this ...

Re: Font support for Central European languages...

After a quick look @ the code I found that all the strings are displayed through the UserString() function (correct me if I'm wrong). I still think that adding UTF8 support is easier than it looks (this should be able to do on a library level), so now I'm looking for any documentation (or at least a...
