Re: List of all space 4X games
Maybe you want to check out cosmic supremacy? It has some interesting features. Its a space strategy game. Its free (at least it says so). It has a lot of borrowed things from Civ (as far as I can see). And the interesting thing is that it is massively multiplayer (at least it says so). That combina...

Using precompiled headers, Pros and Cons
Hi, since compilation takes a lot of time and many header files must be traversed several times in the course, we might consider using precompiled headers to speed up compilation. I did some kind of research in this topic and here are the results, so you can see if this would be something for FO. I ...

Re: FreeOrion Windows SDK
No thanks for that, just wanted to help and make things easier for other newbies like me. Hope, it was okay to discuss things in announcement threads. P.S.: Now I see. Oh yes, it was a typo. Freeorion and Freelords are so simple to mix... I wanted to speak about Freeorion of course. :)

Re: compiling MSVC 8.0 / SVN
only after editing them with MSVC and not using the "do you want to fix inconsistent line endings" option of MSVC. I had the hope that the svn client can automatically fix them - this should be a common problem many repositories in the world should suffer where unix and windows projects ar...

Re: FreeOrion Windows SDK
In the current SDK, there are too many outdated sourcefiles. I recommend to delete all sourcefiles in freelords_sdk/freelords/*, i.e. all files that are also in the svn (in a newer version). Also the boost_vc90_mt libraries for msvc 2008 could be added. If somebody tells me how to upload it, I could...

Re: compiling MSVC 8.0 / SVN
So, compiling with MSVC 2008 Express is going fine, however the (usual) problem with inconsistent line endings (unix/windows) occured. The MSVC IDE always bothered me with a windows and wanted to do something about it, but I clicked it away, since it did not tell me, what it was going to do. Then up...

Re: Moo2 vs Moo1
MoO3 was not too buggy in the end, it just hadn't the fun incorporated but rather played like a spreadsheet/database/enterprise application and not like a game which is supposed to be fun. In my opinion its a general problem of 4X strategy games: what to do if micromanagement is just tedious, in the...

Re: compiling MSVC 8.0 / SVN
What about using mingw and an IDE like CodeBlocks? This could be a complete open-source compilation solution for windows. Should I try and set this up or will the gnu compiler have problems with the libraries in the SDK?

Re: compiling MSVC 8.0 / SVN
I used somehow the same pathway. Here is my recipe. - Downloaded the SVN - Downloaded the Freeorion SDK from 07-06-25 and unzipped to the base directory of the svn - Reverted all the changes from the SDK in the SVN to again obtain the actual state - Installed Python 2.5 into C:\python25 - Installed ...

Re: New arrival
Want to introduce me too: I'm a scientific programmer living in germany spending most of the time developing numerical algorithms with Matlab, C++ or Java however not using the 'great concepts' of object-oriented programming so excessively. :) However I remember how I spent countless hours with MoO1...

Re: New arrival
Oh, and I'll be looking for all things completed on the wiki, as this "SVN", anything Linux-based, and/or compiling = greek to me. You can use SVN via a free GUI client. TortiseSVN if you use windows: http://tortoisesvn.net/downloads MrV if you use windows, I can show you by a small serie...
