Re: Sword of the Stars demo

I'm trying out the sots demo (v1.5.2). So far (maybe 15 to 20 turns) it has been fun. It reminds me alot of Master of Orion 1 with all those sliders. The game puts focus on ship design and research and reduces the micromanagement needs. For instance there are no specific planetary structures to buil...

Re: X4 = dead?

Surely 4x is not dead. At least I'm doing my part.
My blog is about space strategy gaming in general and today I wrote an article about the 4x genre, the 4x definition and links to good lists of games (including a link to a list posted here in the freeorion forum) :)

Re: Less Spaceships with more Personality is more Fun

In StarTrek we never see more than a handful of starships in combat – maybe half a dozen Cruisers class vessels and a couple Galaxy class vessels tops. Large fleets in Star Trek: 627: Federation fleet trying to retake DS9 1252: combined Dominion/Cardassian fleet intercepting the above Federation fl...

Posted an article about FreeOrion. Care to make an interview

Hello Orion comrades. I became acquainted with the freeorion project very recently after I launched my blog about space strategy games. I love to play 4x space strategy games but that you can find in more detail in my blog's "About" page. The reason for this post is to announce to you that I submitt...

Recently found Ogame

I recently found Ogame, a free browser based massively multiplayer online game (MMOG) of space strategy (4x style). If you’re not familiar (yet) with these types of games basically you just need an internet connection and a browser and you are all set to start playing. Playing Ogame is like a breath...

Spaceships Personality

Don't you think that space strategy games are still missign the mark in what concerns Spaceship design? Galciv2 did a nice effort by allowing us to costumize our spaceships but I think something is still definitely wrong in what SpaceShip design is concerned. There are too many spaceship models and ...

Re: X4 = dead?

If I recall in MOO2 uncreative would get a random tech, if "normal" one could choose one tech, if creative the player gets all three techs of a field. This is a perfect example of race traits determining the research hability. Ok so the creative trait would need to be super expensive, something equa...

Space Strategy Games: What's next?

Definitely the Master of Orion series (MOO1 and MOO2) was the best. It simply had the magic feeling about it. Planets toleration that need special (expensive) researchs; the spaceships customization, the basic but interesting sounds (who does not remember the fascinating sound of the doom ray), ulti...
