There is an XCode project in SVN for Mac OSX as well, and a Mac SDK available for download from sourceforge which should provide most or all of the dependencies, but I haven't ever built FreeOrion on a Mac so I can't comment on how difficult it will be.

I'm pretty sure it was working at some point, but it's probably been quite a while since effect-based destroying of objects was last modified. I'll have a look at it with the SVN version, which will probably have the same problem.
